Geoff's Retirement Project - intended to create a comfortable meeting place for the family
as well as eliminate most - hopefully 'all' - of the known problems with the old house.

It now has two bathrooms upstairs and the old downstairs bathroom has become a
'Utilities Room' in architects' jargon. It boasts a large kitchen and an extra upstairs bedroom.

It is no longer a 'small farm labourer's cottage' but a townie's play house. It even has a
letter box but still no 'phone and certainly no T.V. It does have a burglar alarm!

Moreover, as at June 2004, it now has a forest of commemorative walnut trees. In addition to the original planted in memory of Doris in 1985, we now have - Jean Trumper 1993, Nel Trumper 1995, Barney 1997, Rosa 1999, and Lauren 2003.

In October 1985, the old porch was removed and a patio door installed.
I regret not making sure it lined up with the bedroom windows above, but it was an instant success
bringing the view into the house.

April 1984

In between, the roof was reslated using the existing slates but with new battons as well as insulation.
This was partly prompted by the ceiling in the small bedroom collapsing due to leaks in the roof.
It made a bit of a mess.

November 1985

Doris's walnut tree was planted, thus establishing a tradition.

We eventually moved in during November 1978. Some would say that we 'ruined' it as a cottage from the very start by enlarging the windows and the real truth is that we never gave it a second thought.

As well as the windows, we added a Bathroom and Hall, installed plumbing, and converted the old wash house into a reasonable kitchen. Geoff installed power points - there were none - and replaced the asbestos panelling in the lounge with pine boarding.

Only the kitchen, dining area, and new extensions had new concrete floors and the wooden plank floor in the Snug collapsed soon after moving in - another botch job for Geoffrey.

September 1979
A Banbury Double garage was added 'one weekend' by a labour force led by Graham Haines, and the porch subsequently added.

December 1980
The Wood Stove was installed, again by Graham Haines - a very welcome investment, although it took us some months to get the hang of it.

In April 1984 we had a spectacular chimney fire caused by a bird building a nest with egg in the chimney pot between our visits.

Jean and Geoff went on a 2 week tour of China organised by Page and Moy.

It was a fantastic holiday and was certainly mind-opening. The tour was
extremely well organised throughout. The accommodation, movement and guides were outstanding and
the Tour Manager, Gary Neng Xue really made certain that everything went like clockwork.
He made the holiday into a great experience which we could relax and enjoy from start to finish.

This was Forty Acres when we purchased it on 5th. July 1978.
Pidgeons were nesting in the roof - hence the ladder.
The tent was used for camping whilst the builders did their stuff - we didn't stay
in the house until it had been updated.

The house was built about 1905 and was part of the Abbeydore Court Estate. It was
sold to William Bailey Partridge and Richard Crawshay Bailey Partridge (father and son) of Bacton in 1909.
Richard was killed in France in 1918 and the house was sold first to Miss A. M. Rickers of Cardiff in 1919 and then to
Charles and Nora Morgan as sitting tennants in 1951. The Morgan family had been the tennants since it was built in 1905.

Nora died in 1975 and Charlie, who was deaf and dumb, became in need of care and went to live in a caravan in his nephew's garden in Hereford.
He died in 1983.

The first recorded Loosemore is in the Oakford Parish in Devon in 1232, but our immediate
connection is with the Bournemouth 'Loosemores' and we are part of the line
which has been traced back to Bishop's Nympton in the early 1500s. The first recorded ancestor in our line is
William Lowsemore who died in Bishops Nympton in 1539.
Bishop's Nympton is a small village in North Devon. It is probable that the Loosemores come
from nearby Oakford. The 'villages' of East and West Loosemore were close to Oakford but only
East Loosemore remains - and that in name only.

There are several 'lines' of Loosemores which have been traced back to the Oakford area in the early 16th.
century but, so far, it has not been possible to link them together.

Two members of the Loosemore family have spent many years researching the family history:-
<OR>
Ronald Loosemore is in the Rose Ash line and lives in Oxford.

Vic Loosemore of the Bishops's Nympton line and lives in Bournemouth.
</OR>

They have over 8,000 Loosemore's on record but there are still some significant gaps.
If you are a Loosemore (with variations of spelling) and believe they may not know of you,
they would be interested to hear from you. They can be contacted by e-mail -
